Bedford Technology’s FIBERFORCE® at Teco Boardwalk – Tampa Bay, Florida

By | Uncategorized

This next blog will cover a recent plastic lumber project in Tampa Bay, Florida. Teco Boardwalk at Apollo Beach is a Manatee Viewing Center and sanctuary, and is near the Big Bend Power Station. The power station’s clean discharged, warm waters are a safe haven and protected area for the manatees, thus providing them with a natural habitat, and the community with a chance at viewing these magnificent creatures.

Bedford Technology’s FIBERFORCE® plastic lumber products were used in all of the new boardwalks, ADA ramps and observation tower at the Teco Boardwalk facility.   The plastic lumber profiles used on-site were 2×6, 2×8, & 3×12 – all in Bedford’s brown color. Tampa Bay Marine was the contractor on the construction of the new boardwalks and tower and they recommended the use of Bedford Technology recycled plastic lumber products. TBM’s expert craftsmanship led by owner John Galves is second to none.  Their attention to detail is on display throughout the boardwalk and tower.  View more photos on our facebook page to see how truly impressive this project really is!

Bedford Technology’s FIBERFORCE® recycled plastic lumber is a strong, durable product utilizing fiberglass strands to increase rigidity. This added rigidity creates characteristics suited for many structural applications where a wider span, dimensional stability, increased strength or stiffness is required. FIBERFORCE® Hard Tool HDPE plastic lumber is formed in molds in various traditional lumber profile sizes. This lumber product is a coarse, rigid and rough textured material in appearance and feel, making it great for projects requiring particular lumber profile sizing and added strength characteristics.

Bedford Technology’s FIBERFORCE® Hard Tool product also has a foamed core end-cut appearance, textured surface finish and comes in a variety of colors, making it more useful in commercial playground equipment, park and recreation applications, signage, boardwalks, decks, piers, parking curbs, landscaping boards and any harsh weather environment application. Bedford Technology’s Recycled Plastic Lumber – Chemical Resistance

By | Uncategorized

Bedford Technology’s High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) recycled plastic lumber products have another added feature that comes up quite often in conversation, that being said our plastic lumber is highly resistant to most acids and chemicals. This makes HDPE recycled plastic lumber a great solution for abrasive, corrosive and acidic manufacturing plants or facilities where harmful chemicals are abundant. HDPE plastic lumber is not affected by exposure to most of these substances. Acids, oils, milks, shampoos and detergents…nearly all of these chemicals are currently shipped in HDPE plastic bottles, which are recycled back through our process to become Bedford Technology’s HDPE plastic lumber products.

So why choose plastic lumber over wood? Wood in contrast to plastic lumber will absorb many of the acidic and corrosive liquids and chemicals that were mentioned earlier.  This chemical absorption in turn makes it a challenge to dispose of the contaminated wood. Wood also splinters and chips whereas plastic lumber will not. Wood also decomposes, becomes soft and may lose structural properties when saturated by chemicals, whereas plastic lumber will hold its shape and strength year over year and can easily be cleaned by power washing any contaminants from the surface, making it the better lumber solution! With a limited 50 year warranty on most plastic lumber products, Bedford Technology’s recycled plastic lumber is the right environmental choice. Let plastic lumber be your solution for cribbing, dunnage, palleting and catwalks, where caustic sodas or harsh chemicals are present such as: paper mills, battery manufacturers and chemical plants.

Bedford Technology is a premier plastic lumber manufacturer that offers three distinct manufacturing processes: Molded (Hard Tool), Continuous Extrusion (CE) and Multi Stage Extrusion (Multi-X). Within these very unique processes Bedford also has a wide range of brands that include: SelectForce®, FiberForce®, BarForce®, SeaPile®, SeaTimber® andSeaCamel®. Each of these exclusive brands offer an alternative solution to standard wood lumber profiles in the marketplace today. Recycled Plastic Lumber Applications – Multiple Stage Extrusion (Multi-X)

By | Uncategorized

Bedford Technology is proud to offer three uniquely distinct plastic board manufacturing techniques: Molded (Hard Tool), Continuous Extrusion (CE) and Multi Stage Extrusion (Multi-X). Multiple Stage Extrusion (Multi-X) is a process used to produce recycled plastic lumber products in our SeaPile®, SeaTimber® and SeaCamel® marine lines. For more information about our Multi-X process, please refer to our blog at: http://www.plasticboards.com/blog/recycled-plastic-lumber-manufacturing-processes-multiple-stage-extrusion-mu/.  In this blog, we will cover a variety of applications and end product uses for our Multi-X lines.

Our Multiple Stage Extrusion (Multi-X) technology produces advanced composite plastics with superior properties to timber, steel and concrete for many marine structures and heavy applications. Multi-X products can also withstand heavy impacts by absorption of energy through recoverable deflection. Multi-X is also manufactured from a recycled plastic matrix with unique glass fiber reinforcement bars. The stiffness of our product can be varied and controlled to suit each project. This makes Multi-X the ideal product for marine structures and for coastal protection without damaging the environment. Multi-X recycled HDPE plastic lumber is utilized for large cross sections, at long lengths (up to 100’ or more) to be used in structural applications. This would include, but is not limited only to, many marine applications such as: dock & bridge pier fender systems, camels, backing beams/wharf logs, navigation aids and markers, guide walls, retaining walls, locks, corner fenders, bullrails, wales and dolphin clusters. Over the last decade we have seen the demand for recycled plastic lumber grow based on the industries need for a long lasting and durable product. Our product lines (SeaPile®, SeaTimber®, BarForce®, FiberForce®) meet these needs in the marine environment, being that they are resistant to: marine borers, extreme marine environments and the effects of ultraviolet light.

Mulit-X is a unique plastic lumber product allowing flexibility in meeting the needs of many industries. We see the potential for industrial and transportation applications in the near future which might include: transportation posts, fortress pilings, pedestrian bridges, railroad bridges, foundation piles, utility poles, billboards and signage posts.  At Bedford Technology we are saying “Why Not?” to many new and exciting ideas for our products.  If it is near water and the elements, it can be replaced by high quality HDPE recycled plastic lumber.

Bedford Technology’s plastic lumber serves as a replacement to traditional wood profiles, wood piles, concrete piles, steel piles and hollow piles (fiberglass).
